Description
Let me flourish and I show my real beauty. Artichokes taste delicious when cooked but they are actually too beautiful to eat. If you let them bloom then they show their hidden secret of a wonderful delicate flower.
The globe artichoke (Cynara cardunculus), also known as French artichoke and green artichoke in the USA, is a variety of a species of thistle cultivated as a food. The edible portion of the plant consists of the flower buds before the flowers come into bloom. The budding artichoke flower-head is a cluster of many budding small flowers, together with many bracts, on an edible base. Once the buds bloom, the structure changes to a coarse, barely edible form. These lilac flowers are gorgeous to look at and ideal for a painting.
