Artist's Description
Parrot tulips are cup-shaped, fringed, twisted and ruffled tulips decorated with vivid, flame-like splashes, stripes or feathery markings. They are often mistaken for peonies because of their large cup-shaped blooms and ruffled edges. Most varieties are bi-colored with a wide range of bright colors, including red, violet, yellow, orange, pink, green and near black. Parrot tulips open their frilly petals in mid to late spring and their huge blooms span up to 5 inches across, with streaks of color shooting through the petals like brilliant flames.

From Basel, Switzerland. In my artwork (watercolor and mixed media) I do focus on the extraordinary light and atmosphere that we find in nature, landscapes and alpine scenes. To capture this mood in my pictures is my challenge and passion. My Watercolor Paintings are done primarily in negative painting technique that means carving out shapes from the underpainting by painting around objects instead of painting them directly. I love to paint in a loose, expressionist, impressionist or semi-abstract way. I never try to copy the perfection of nature! I rather chose a loose approach with creative colors, unusual composition and with passionate brushstrokes.
